PSPGO-ing, Going, Gone

Much to no ones shock, it's looking like Sony's failed experiment, the PSPGo is finally dead. According to a blog from an employee of Sony Store Japan, production has ceased on these very expensive and soon to be rare electronic drink coasters. Sony Japan's online store has stopped taking orders and has the console listed as sold out for the indefinite future and other sites have it listed as temporarily unavailable. But really, who didn't see this coming?

The PSPGo has been plagued by failure since its launch. Sony said they would have a way for folks who had bought hard copies of a PSP game to transfer them to digital format. That never happened. Then there was the fact that retailers, like GameStop, didn't back it because it meant fewer game sales for them and from there support just slowly crept away.

And with the Sony NGP coming later this year, it just makes sense to back something that actually has a chance of being successful. They wouldn't confirm or deny that they've stopped production, but they did send the following message out to Eurogamer:

"[We will]continue to meet demand" for the "current generation of PSPs".

"It is a very exciting time for PlayStation portable devices, Before the end of the year we are launching NGP, our next generation portable device, which we believe will revolutionise portable gaming. In the meantime, the current generation of PSPs continue to be in demand, especially since the introduction of our value for money, Essentials range of games and we will continue to meet that demand."

And not a single fuck was given for the PSPGo that day.
