Peter Moore Talks Steam Vs. Origin, “There Is No Feud” Between EA And Valve

Despite the fact that Electronic Arts has launched a competing digital market targeted directly at taking down Valve's Steam service, EA COO Peter Moore claims that there is currently "no feud" going on between the two companies.

To back up this claim, Moore pointed to EA published titles like Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead both of which were developed by Valve. Speaking to Eurogamer, he explained: "There's no feud. Remember, we're the guys who published Left 4 Dead and Portal 2. It's Valve. Gabe's a great friend of EA's. We're a great friend of his, we like to think."

As far as why EA opted to create Origin, their own digital market place that now serves as direct competition to Steam, Moore added that it came down to a difference in views on how business is done. “They have different terms and conditions that they put on their games that don’t meet what we would like to do with our gamers. They insist on being a layer between the game developer and publisher and the consumer," he said.

"They take a piece of the revenue stream. And they don’t allow us to go directly to the consumer to do patches and updates. So we just agree to disagree. It’s not a feud. They have their terms and conditions. We do. They don’t meet.” As far as what the future may hold for Origin, Moore did say that things could change if Valve were to change their business model, "but until then, nothing’s going to change.”

Hooray for fragmentation in the digital market! As if things aren't already complicated enough.
