Gearbox Admits Borderlands’ Story Sucked, Borderlands 2 Will Deliver

No game is perfect, and in the case of the original Borderlands the story could have been more impactful. But that's what a sequel is for, right?

Gearbox Interactive's Lead Writer, Anthony Burch, admitted to IGN during an interview that the first Borderlands didn't deliver the memorable story that it could have. He stated the following:

There were lots of cool stories that could have been told. Plus, the ending sucked, and we’ve admitted that a bunch.

Borderlands 2 is getting ready to hit store shelves, and thankfully Gearbox is confident that it will deliver a compelling narrative with interesting characters. In order to accomplish this, the game will spend time both introducing and building character storylines, so you won't feel like you're meeting strangers all the time. Secondly, it will drive a plot that is focused and has both moments of both intensity and relief.

Burch continued with the following:

It makes you feel like you’re part of a story rather than checking off a bunch of things on a shopping list that are free of context.

With improved visuals, more diverse gameplay, and a rich narrative, Borderlands 2 is shaping up to be not only the must-have game of September, but the cooperative game of choice in 2012.
