SCEA Explains Why North America Got The Shaft On PSOne Classics

After what seemed like an eternity, support for PlayStation One Classics were added to the Vita this week. However, it wasn't all gravy. North American residents were treated to only nine of the more than 100 titles that European PlayStation fans were offered. So why is that?

SCEA reached out to GamesRadar this morning and explained why so few games were added to the North American PlayStation Store. They stated:

Each territory is completely unique and must go through its own individual processes for approvals in order to be available for purchase directly on PS Vita through PlayStation Store. We work collaboratively with all parties involved, including third party publishers, to ensure that we are following the proper protocol. As of right now, there are nine PS one classics titles available on the PS Vita store, however we are working hard to expand this list as soon as possible.

Thankfully, you can still download virtually any PSOne Classic on your PlayStation 3 and then transfer it to your Vita, but full support isn't guaranteed. That's what's keeping me from purchasing Final Fantasy VI, a game I've been dying to play since I received my Vita at launch.

At some point the library will expand to point where everyone forgets this era of sorrow and despair, and until then you can look at our Top 10 Must-Own PSOne Classics so you know what to revisit when the time is right.
