PlayStation Celebrates International Women’s Day With a Free PS4 Theme

Today PlayStation, in solidarity with International Women’s Day, has released a free PS4 theme for many fans to enjoy. Throughout my time writing about video games I’ve met some of the loveliest women in the industry. In the past, I’ve interviewed writer Mary Kirby from BioWare, and only last week did I sat in on an event where women throughout the industry (journalists to game devs) talked about how their lives had changed due to their jobs in gaming. It was heart-warming, and it brings a smile on my face to see that PlayStation has decided to show solidarity by posting a theme with some of PlayStation’s favorite leading ladies.

The women included in this artwork (lovingly crafted by Maja-Lisa Kehlet Hansen, a character and environment artist at Media Molecule) include Chloe and Nadine from the Uncharted series, Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, Kara from the upcoming Quantic Dream game Detroit: Become Human, Ellie from The Last of Us and a lady bear from Dreams. While some may be side-eyeing that a bear is involved and not Kat from Gravity Rush, you can’t deny that their heart is in the right place.

Lately, PlayStation has been hitting it out of the ballpark with games that feature some excellent leading ladies. Chloe and Nadine got their own game a few months back with The Lost Legacy, Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn is a favorite for many and Ellie from The Last of Us is arguably one of the most well-liked modern gaming characters. So, it really is no surprise that PlayStation wants to celebrate that.

As of now, you can get this theme on the EU and NZ servers.
