League Of Legends Is The World’s Most Played Game With 32 Million+ Players

If you ever wondered what the most popular game on the planet was, today is your lucky day.

Riot Games have released a massive infographic image that shows everything you'd ever want to know about League of Legends' popularity. The sheet full of interesting facts includes the following:

  • 32 million monthly active players
  • 12 million daily active players
  • 3 million peak concurrent players
  • Over 1 billion play hours per month
  • 6.5 million deaths a day

To put these massive, inconceivable numbers in perspective, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 at its peak wasn't able to achieve even half the numbers that League of Legends has. Better yet, if you tally together all top 100 games on Steam you still wouldn't even see 1/5th of the popularity. Sure, you can argue that League of Legends is free, but accumulating in a single month the equivalent of half the total hours gamers spent in Halo during its lifetime deserves a round of applause.

League of Legends has done a fine job of retaining its playerbase despite Dota 2 gaining popularity month-over-month, and it's not even officially released. I'm sure Valve would love to see these numbers from their action RTS juggernaut, but it's going to take a lot of work to pull tens of millions of players away from the game they know and love.
