Mutant Year Zero Road to Eden

Mutant Year Zero Gameplay Trailer Released, Pre-Order Early Access Announced

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden was one of the more surprising announcements earlier this year. Today, publisher Funcom alongside developer The Bearded Ladies have released the first gameplay trailer to the upcoming hybrid real-time and turn-based tactical strategy games. Alongside the trailer, the company has also announced the details on the game’s pricing and pre-order bonuses, which include early access to the game.

The Bearded Ladies CEO Haraldur Thormundsson said in a statement:

“Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is our passion project. It’s the game we always wanted to do and we’re incredibly excited to be working on it. We truly believe the unique mix of turn-based tactical combat combined with freeform exploration, stealth, and story will offer something new and different gamers have never experienced before.”

Aside from showing off more of the game’s unique characters, which include a crossbow-wielding mutant duck, the gameplay trailer of Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden also gave us a very good look of the game’s mix of turn-based combat and real-time exploration. The turn-based combat looks typical of tactical strategy games such as XCOM 2 while its real-time exploration looks quite similar of tactical RPGs.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is based on the classic Mutant franchise from the 1980s which has spawned several pen-and-paper RPGs including the Mutant: Year Zero game from Free League and Modiphius Entertainment.

Funcom also announced that the game is already available for pre-order with two editions available. The Standard Edition ($34.99) will include a three-day head start when the game launches while the Deluxe Edition ($54.99) will come with a desktop wallpaper, digital artbook, digital soundtrack, and a digital copy of the Mutant Year Zero pen-and-paper RPG book. Those who buy the Deluxe Edition will also give players access to the game’s Beta before it fully launches alongside the three-day head start.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is scheduled for release sometime later this year for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out the new gameplay trailer below:
