Angry Birds Reaches 140 M Downloads, Video Gaming Dies A Little Inside

I upgraded to an iPhone 4 about a month or two ago. Since then I've been doing a considerable amount of gaming on the go. I hate to admit that I spent $0.99 on Angry Birds. Why do I hate to admit that?

Because the game sucks! I can see how it can get addictive, I can see the merit in it for people who don't play… sigh, "real" video games. What I don't think I ever realized is just how many people could take the plunge for Rovio's mobile game.

In fact, Angry Birds recently crested One Hundred and Forty Million downloads. 1-4-0. Million. That is f***ing insane.

That startling figure covers every version of the game, paid, free, Rio, Seasons and Android, Windows, and Apple mobile platforms. Oh, Angry Birds is on the PlayStation 3 too. The Angry Birds franchise launched on iOS platforms 16 months ago.

Rovio is still a privately owned company so telling the numerical difference between paid and free versions of the game isn't really possible. With plans to sell 100 million downloads in China this year, the pigs are in for trouble they have never seen before.
