Pokemon Go was pulling in serious numbers for Nintendo, The Pokemon Company, and Niantic. It truly was a worldwide phenomenon. You couldn’t escape the mobile title even if you wanted to for around a year. Since the end of 2016/early 2017, however, you’d be forgiven if you thought nobody played it anymore. This simply isn’t true. Despite the complete decline in the hype and talk surrounding Pokemon Go, people are still playing the thing in their droves. Pokemon Go has seen the biggest increase in active users since the last high of 2016. Pokemon Go updates have seen player number soar in recent weeks.
Indeed, as per a report on VG24/7 dated April 2017, statistics for the game were not pretty. Active daily user numbers fell by over 80%. Roll on to today, however, and (as reported by IGN from statistics by Superdata) the amount of people playing Pokemon Go has increased dramatically. The latest data shows that more people are playing than they were 2 years ago, earning $104 million in May 2018 alone. That’s a 174% rise in revenue over last year.
How Important Have Pokemon Go Updates Been for the Game?
The numbers being thrown around with Pokemon Go are staggering. There are likely a few reasons why its popularity has seen a sharp increase recently, however, not only its updates. First and foremost, the weather around the world has got a lot nicer as of late. The summer months go hand in hand with such games as Pokemon Go which promotes getting out and about to make the most of its features.
The features themselves though, have dramatically improved since the games original launch. Pokemon Go updates have seen the game change rather a lot. Players can now catch Pokemon from Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn, for example. Recently, users have been able to find and catch Alolan forms of Kanto Pokemon, too. New dynamic weather systems have been put in place too, which changes what Pokemon you’ll encounter, even altering the power of certain moves depending on the weather.
Alongside changes in the actual Pokemon, battles have been expanded. New Raid Battles add a new layer of intensity to proceedings, different levels awarding better and more unique raid items upon completion. The single biggest update for Pokemon Go, however, has been the recent addition of trading. This new update has finally given the fans the ability to trade Pokemon with their friends. Surely this update has had a huge impact on the daily number of active players?
Lastly the upcoming Switch titles, Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, have Pokemon Go interaction. Simply put, there has never been a better time to play or try out Pokemon Go, and player numbers have soared because of this.
