Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee will have the long-awaited return of Mega Evolutions to a larger prominence in the Pokemon franchise. After being conspicuously pushed aside in Pokemon Sun and Moon for Ultra Moves, the temporary boost in power and appearance will be coming back in the Kanto-focused games.
Serebii.net has received early leaks of the coming month’s CoroCoro, a children’s manga magazine that has historically revealed news for the Pokemon franchise due to its close ties to the Pokemon Company. In the pages of CoroCoro, we can see that Charizard will get both of its mega evolution forms, while Venasaur and Blastoise will get theirs as well.
These will be accessible in the same way as in previous games by players receiving a “key stone” at some point in the game. Then trainers will need to equip the individual mega stones of each Pokemon to access the Mega Evolutions in battle. It currently remains to be seen whether the other Pokemon who can mega evolve from the Kanto region will receive this same treatment. There is also no current news regarding if any new Mega Evolutions will be appearing in the game.
The pages of CoroCoro also cover news around which NPCs will be appearing in the two games. The first noteworthy addition is Lt. Surge who will be closer to his anime counterpart as he will be using a Raichu in his team. More interestingly is the fact that Jesse and James will be available to fight in a tag battle against the player. In the image below we can see them using a Koffing and an Ekans, thus suggesting they will have teams based around the Pokemon they have in the anime.
Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch on November 16. You can read our E3 preview of the game here.
