Wii U Produces Better Visuals Than PS3 And 360, Says Trine 2 Developer

Maybe the Wii U isn't so bad after all.

GamingBolt's interview with Frozenbyte Games revealed a healthy amount of positivity about the Wii U's hardware, not only limited to its current performance but its potential as well. When asked about whether or not the Wii U's CPU was a hindrance during the porting of Trine 2, the studio responded:

The whole architecture is running very well and we were able to ramp the Trine 2 art to a higher degree than with the other consoles.

They continued with some additional insight:

Maybe some were looking for a larger leap in terms of pure power, but in the end I believe most developers will be quite comfortable with the system.

Nintendo has never been about pushing hardware, and it's proven time and time again that it doesn't worry about trends. On one hand it's harmful (i.e. no achievements, cross game chat, etc.), but on the other hand you can always expect a unique experience on a Nintendo console. Even then, developers have seen enough from the Wii U to say it's more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3—which isn't much of a feat—and has a GamePad that can do more for gaming franchises than simply improving the visual experience.

Concerns over the Wii U falling tragically behind once Microsoft, Valve, and Sony enter the new generation are still valid, but for now the Wii U confidently sits at the top of the totem pole.
