NieR: Automata GOTY Is On Its Way For PC & PS4

NieR Automata GOTY is something that fans might have been hoping for and we just got a bit of good news on the subject: the Game of the Year Edition of Platinum Games’ robot romp is definitely on its way.

In the world of the future, strange robots from another planet have forced humanity to flee their birthplace. Mankind doesn’t take kindly to being evicted without notice. The people of the future decide to send down a team of combat-capable androids named 2B, 9S, and A2 to take out the mechanical squatters and reclaim our homeworld. It was certainly a great game that’s loosely tied to the 2010 Action RPG NieR.

18 months after its release, we’ve finally had confirmation that we’ll be getting NieR Automata GOTY. The ESRB has rated NieR: Automata Game of the YoRHa Edition. YoRHa is the project that led to the creation of the series’ androids – protagonist 2B’s full designation is YoRHa No.2 Type B and her two android companions share a similar naming scheme.

We can occasionally glean some hints about what’s coming in a game through the ESRB description. Unfortunately, the listing for NieR Automata GOTY seems pretty standard. In fact, the Rating Summary is completely identical to that of the base game. What we do know is that it will be coming to the PC and the PlayStation 4, just like the original version. There have recently been hints that it might come to the Nintendo Switch and an Xbox One version was confirmed at this year’s E3.

One question does remain: what exactly will we be getting in NieR Automata GOTY? A Game of the Year Edition will typically include all DLC and updates, but Automata’s only offering for downloadable content is 3C3C1D119440927, a set of new outfits and a few short missions set in a colosseum. We usually hear an announcement within a few weeks after an ESRB rating goes live, so perhaps we’ll soon see that NieR Automata GOTY will add something interesting into the mix.
