Minecraft PC Breaks 10 Million Sales Milestone, 16 Million Total

So he said, "build me a milestone".

After only 17 months of being released, Minecraft has sold 10 million units on the PC. The Xbox 360 version broke 6 million just a week ago, bringing the total sales beyond 16 million.

Originally, Minecraft was a simple idea imagined by Swedish programmer Markus Persson after playing games such as Dwarf Fortress and Infiniminer. Although he had no idea how popular it would become, it would quickly gain massive attention during beta. That attention translated from being a top 3 played and talked about game to sales. Now, it's more than just a PC game with a mobile variant for Android and iOS, as well as a console edition for the Xbox 360.

Minecraft strays so far from today's game design norms that you can't help but be glad it succeeded. It's a creative game that has provided endless hours of addiction with mind-blowing creations to show for it. If you look around the internet you can find videos of some wild creations, from a globe of the Earth to King's Landing from Game of Thrones. Furthermore, after showing us that building objects with friends can actually be fun it made its way to our Top 25 PC Games list.
