DICE Rejects Offers To Add Gimmicks To Battlefield 4

It appears that DICE has been approached by Sony and/or Microsoft in regards to supporting motion controls for the next generation, to which it replied with an exuberant hell no.

DICE Executive Producer Patrick Bach told Edge the following about Battlefield 4:

We are not interested in things that don’t make the game better. There are a lot of gimmicks – people throwing money at us – ‘can you implement support for this quirky control thing’. No, it doesn’t make the game better.
He added:
We are extremely open to innovation, but if it’s a gimmick, there’s no point unless it adds value to the player.
It appears that Battlefield 4 will only incorporate new features that offer a positive and valuable addition to the player experience; it's concerning how surprising that is to hear, not because Battlefield has a history of trying too hard, but because most other games have.

More than anything, supplemental technologies don't belong in a war shooter like the Battlefield series.  Devoting development time to implement voice commands or motion controls only takes away from focus elsewhere. That could mean multiplayer balancing, or more maps to skirmish on.

Rumors state that the next Xbox will have a built in Kinect-style sensor, which isn't all that surprising given how successful the Kinect has been. DICE won't be the last developer approached by Microsoft. All we can do is hope the others have the same sense.
