3DS Zelda Title Takes Place After The Events Of A Link To The Past

Just yesterday, Nintendo announced a brand new Zelda title for the 3DS. The game will be a sequel to the SNES classic The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, but has yet to receive an official subtitle outside of Japan.

Bill Trinen, NoA's Director of Product Marketing, clarified to Joystiq where this new 3DS title fits into the Zelda universe. "There is a '2' in the Japanese title. So, yeah, I think as I described today, it's an all-new game, it is an all-new story. From a story perspective there are connections, so it does fall after A Link to the Past. And it's set in the same world, but introduces that new gameplay mechanic."

So there you have it, the upcoming Zelda 3DS title is by all accounts a direct sequel to the Super Nintendo adventure. So why hasn't Nintendo announced the subtitle of the game in the West yet? Does A Link to the Past 2 simply make too much sense?
