E3 2019 | The Sims 5 missing from EA Play despite rumors

The Sims 5 wasn’t unveiled during the E3 2019 EA Play event, despite rumors that it would be shown during the show. EA instead continued to focus on The Sims 4, revealing its new expansion Living Island, rounding out its E3 event with the upcoming DLC.

The Sims 4 has proven to be one of EA’s most enduring games, continuing to rake in major cash despite it releasing all the way back in 2014. After EA announced it would be discussing the series at its pre-E3 event, EA Play, there was speculation that its sequel would be revealed. However, that wasn’t to be.

Instead, EA focused on The Sims 4 Living Island expansion, debuting a new trailer for the upcoming DLC. While The Sims will undoubtedly be interested in the brand new content, it isn’t on the same level as the announcement of a sequel. So where was The Sims 5 at E3 2019?

With EA not scheduling a The Sims 4 sequel announcement for its EA Play presentation, it’s unsurprising that it wasn’t unveiled during its pre-E3 2019 event. However, that didn’t stop fans speculating that The Sims 5 would be officially revealed during the show, even if EA spent most of The Sims‘ segment discussing its new tropical DLC.

The Sims 5 is likely still some way off, with players investing tons of cash into The Sims 4‘s various expansions and more coming down the pipeline. It’d take a strong decline in sales for the current Sims game to warrant hitting the refresh button, and with expansions on the horizon, it isn’t quite the time for EA to embark on a sequel.
