Nintendo Skipping E3 2023 Due to Fewer Switch Releases – Report

Nintendo is reportedly skipping E3 2023 due to fewer new Switch releases, it has been reported, with the company allegedly having a slim release calendar in the latter half of the year. Nintendo has allegedly decided to skip the event as a result of this.

Nintendo Switch reportedly has fewer game releases in 2023

While plenty of games are coming to Switch consoles in 2023, upcoming Nintendo exclusives are few and far between, and according to VGC‘s sources, a lack of releases post-E3 has caused the company to skip the event altogether. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is set to launch in May before the expo, and is likely going to be the biggest Switch release of the year.

As initially reported by IGN, E3 is also apparently losing Xbox and PlayStation, but the absence of Nintendo is tough. Even after the launch of its “Direct” format, Nintendo has been a staple of E3 and was present at the last physical event in 2019, unlike Playstation and Xbox. However, its upcoming Switch releases aren’t enough to justify the floor space.

While the lack of game releases is the driving factor, it’s likely not the only one. Nintendo’s Direct showcase has met with massive success, with the most recent stream in September 2022 receiving over 5 million views.

Despite the lack of support from major industry players like Nintendo, E3 2023 will run from Jun 13 to Jun 16.
