New Assassin's Creed

Where was the new Assassin’s Creed game at E3 2019?

Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok, the rumored latest game in Ubisoft’s long-running franchise, was a no-show at E3 2019. The eternal war between Assassins and Templars (or whoever will stand in for them in this time period) will have to be revealed at a later date. The new Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok game doesn’t yet have a release date or even a broad release window.

So, where to begin with this Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok E3 2019 MIA shocker? Recent alleged leaks have pointed towards a wintry climate for the new Assassin’s Creed game, but the Vikings, jarls, and all the rest of it, were nowhere to be found.

Ubisoft did have its fair share of mainstays at the E3 2019 conference: Just Dance, Ghost Recon, and Watch Dogs all made their presence known, which makes the absence of Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok even more puzzling. Attention will inevitably turn towards future events: Gamescom 2019 is in August, which feels like a good a time as any to map out the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Yet, the fact remains: There is no Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok at E3 2019; no new Assassin’s Creed game, not even a mobile spin-off to speak off. It’s an odd choice for Ubisoft to leave out their jewel in its crown, though it may simply be a case of waiting to reveal things until it’s ready. A new Assassin’s Creed game is on the horizon, that’s for certain, we just don’t know when it’s arriving… yet.

But it’s not all in vain for Assassin’s Creed fans. In fact, you could pore hundreds of hours into the current outing, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, thanks to the just-announced Story Creator Mode, which allows players to forge their own questlines and use several built-in assets to create a story that spans the entire Ancient Greek world. It’s no Ragnarok, sure, but it might just appease the masses.
