Economist Says Kinect Should Be Optional, Xbox One Price “Too High”

The $499 asking price for the Xbox One is "too high," according to economist Rafi Mohammed.

The main reason why Microsoft has to charge so much has everything to do with the fact that the new Kinect will be included in every box. Meanwhile, Sony has opted to go the cheaper route by keeping its camera separate in the base model.

Mohammed believes that Microsoft should offer the Kinect separate as well, as a cheaper price of entry is worth the sacrifice. "I still think the price is too high," he told Bloomberg. Because the Kinect isn't optional, Microsoft's move "has the potential to really derail Xbox One for the upcoming holiday season."

Do you think Microsoft should offer a model of the Xbox One without the Kinect, or is making it mandatory the right move? Let us know in the comments below.
