One of the greatest assets of the Xbox 360 was that it came with a headset in every box, but that won't be the case with Microsoft's next-gen console. So why is MS changing course with Xbox One? The answer is quite simple, actually: Kinect.

The news was confirmed to IGN, along with the company's reasoning, which has everything to do with the Kinect's "highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences."

So if you want to pick up a headset for your Xbox One, you'll have to buy it separately. Suddenly that $499 price tag looks even more steep.
