Marvel's Avengers character models will "continue to change"

Marvel’s Avengers character models will ‘continue to change’

Despite being one of Square Enix’s most anticipated games, the reception that Marvel’s Avengers received has been rather mixed. At Gamescom 2019, Square Enix addressed the complaints, stating that Marvel’s Avengers character models will still change as the game gets polished.

Talking to PCGamesN, Avengers editorial director Casey Lynch confirmed that the changes were coming, while stating that the footage that’s been shown is from an earlier build. He stated that “everything about the game is going to continue to change as we polish, as we approach launch right now, but things that we’ve shown both at E3 and here, it’s all been pre-alpha.” Lynch further added that “there’ll be changes to everything from the characters to a lot of what you see.”

Fans’ complaints usually revolve around the game’s character models. At E3, Crystal Dynamics Lead Creative Director Shaun Escayg stated that the studio would not be changing the character designs despite the feedback. While the statements from Gamescom seem to indicate that this is no longer the case, the studio won’t actually be changing the character designs.

“By changes, we’re talking about polish. What we’re doing is we are continuing to add detail to their character models, we’re improving the lighting, we’re improving the skin shading,” stated a Square Enix representative in the same article. “So, what you’re hopefully seeing is the characters continuing to look better as we get closer to launch. But in terms of changing character designs, that’s not currently what we’re looking at.”

Based on the above, it looks like the changes may not be what most fans are hoping for. That said, it could be possible that a little bit of polish will be all that’s needed to address the fans complaints. Will the final game satisfy fans disappointed with how Marvel’s Avengers currently looks like, or will it continue to disappoint? We’ll find out when the game arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 15, 2020.
