Death Stranding TGS footage

Kojima advises convinced players not to watch Death Stranding TGS footage

Kojima has just advised convinced players to skip the Death Stranding TGS footage he is planning on showing. He stated that this was because these players should “enjoy the surprise by discovering [the game themselves].” The reveal will happen tomorrow, September 12, and it will be comprised of the first third of a game mission.

Kojima says that the footage is 49 minutes long and should finally give everyone a good idea on the basic flow of Death Stranding. To keep spoilers at bay, he edited the map and items.

According to Kojima, the Death Stranding TGS footage should only be seen by those who still don’t know what the game is about or how the basic gameplay unfolds. As for the other players, fans of Kojima’s previous titles and his knack for atypical stories, surprising gameplay mechanics, and controversial characters (Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’s Quiet is a great example), they should skip the footage entirely.

Kojima’s advice makes perfect sense, considering that the story he intends to tell with Death Stranding has been shrouded in mystery since its announcement. Players who are determined to purchase the game should avoid spoilers as it’s likely that a few of them will surface during the 49-minute session.

For those who can’t resist the urge and want to see what Kojima has in store, hopefully the trailer will dispel some of the most common doubts. For example, what is pee for anyway? And what was Keanu Reeves up to when he visited Kojima Productions? Was he in for a motion capture session, ultimately ending up in Death Stranding for a cameo, just as Geoff Keighley did? However, it is unlikely that Reeves’ cameo would be in the demo if he is even in the game at all.

Death Stranding is one of the bigger games of the Tokyo Game Show 2019, but the question is: how many players are going to listen to Kojima’s advice and avoid watching the Death Stranding footage?
