Okami 2

Okami 2 teased by Hideki Kamiya and Ikumi Nakamura

Hideki Kamiya and Ikumi Nakamura have just teased the possibility of Okami 2. There are quite a few fans of the original games out there who would love to see Okami 2 made, and now Platinum Games’ Game Director Hideki Kamiya and the “Positive unemployed” internet sensation Ikumi Nakamura have teamed up to make a statement.

“Okami is going to be back!” Nakamura said in a tweet. “We want to make Okami sequel and fans are looking forward to it too. You guys want to see Kamiya’s Okami again, right, everyone? I want to work on it too!” The tweet also included a short video which featured Nakamura and Kamiya directly addressing the camera in front of the Platinum Games logo, presumably at their offices in Japan.

Here is a transcription of the very short video released on Ms. Nakamura’s Twitter that may well be teasing Okami 2.

Hideka Kamiya: “Okami is going to be back.”

Ikumi Nakamura: “Really?”

Hideka Kamiya: “Really.”

Both: [laughs]

Technically, an Okami sequel of sorts had already been made. Capcom put out a Nintendo DS title named Okamiden that was set in the same universe, but it didn’t involve the same people who made the first game such a beloved title. That may be why it failed to achieve the same level of success as the original.

Hideki Kamiya has expressed a desire to make Okami 2 for some time now. In fact, he came close several times as reported in this video by DidYouKnowGaming?, but he quite obviously hasn’t been able to get it off of the ground just yet.

The success of the Resident Evil 2 Remake has recently led Capcom to state that it was interested in resurrecting older properties, a category under which Okami most certainly falls. However, some people in the Twitter replies are concerned that this may just be a joke on Mr. Kamiya’s part. We’ll have to wait and see before we know whether or not we’re actually going to get Okami 2, but a lot of people are pretty hopeful that Platinum Games is dead serious about it.
