Pokemon Go Qualcomm Augmented reality

Pokemon Go creators working on augmented reality glasses

Niantic Labs — the people behind Pokemon GoIngress, and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, is committing to going even deeper into augmented reality technology with the announcement of a partnership with Qualcomm. Pretty soon, Pokemon Go players will be able to catch ’em all in style.

Qualcomm’s annual “Snapdragon Technology Summit” recently took place, and the two companies too the time to announce a joint collaboration according to a blog post on Niantic’s website. Their project will ultimately see them creating a new pair of augmented reality glasses.

The glasses being created by the Pokemon Go creators will be optimized for the Qualcomm Snapdragon XRE2 Platform first and foremost and then the Niantic Real World Platform after that. The combination of these two techs integrated from the ground up should make for a pretty robust AR experience.

This isn’t the first time that Niantic has gotten involved with some appealing technology, mind. Roughly a year ago, Niantic contributed towards a company called Digilens in an effort to produce a new kind of augmneted-reality glasses that could be used with Pokemon Go.
