Team Ninja Interested In Yaiba Sequel

Yaiba, the upcoming action game from Team Ninja, Spark Unlimited, and Comcept, is set to launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime next year, and if it proves to be a success, a sequel is a definite possibility.

For those that don't know, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is tied to the Ninja Gaiden franchise, but Team Ninja is making it clear that this sub-series is entirely separate from the mainline Ryu Hayabusa story arc. Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi explained how it fits into the series, telling Joystiq:

It's not a sequel or a spin-off, it is its own thing. And so the systems are very different. We want to have it open to another audience, to people who like zombie games. The target is a little bit different, but it should still feel like a good, solid action game.

By the time Yaiba is on store shelves, the next-gen consoles will be out. When asked about a potential next-gen version or proper sequel on new hardware, Hayashi went on to add:

We're very focused on making this for the current generation, for PS3 and 360. When we first started talking about this project it was before any news on anything about next-gen was out, so that's been our focus for the entire project. If once it comes out and the new hardware is out a lot of people want Yaiba on next-gen hardware, we're certainly open to the idea. But currently there are no plans for that.

Are you looking forward to Yaiba in 2014, or will you be too preoccupied with shiny new hardware? Let us know in the comments below.
