Microsoft Reportedly Working On Siri Competitor Dubbed “Cortana”

The Big M is planning to integrate voice command software into its Windows-powered devices in an effort to compete against the likes of Android's Google Now and Apple's Siri, according to a new report.

But the story doesn't end there, as ZDNet is reporting that this new software will be called Cortana and presumably feature the voice of Halo's iconic AI sidekick.

It will also apparently boast a level of intelligence on par with Master Chief's fictional companion, as "Cortana, Microsoft's assistant technology, likewise will be able to learn and adapt, relying on machine-learning technology and the "Satori" knowledge repository powering Bing."

The outlet goes on to add that "Cortana will be more than just an app that lets users interact with their phones more naturally using voice commands." Believe it or not, the software is apparently "core to the makeover of the entire "shell" — the core services and experience — of the future versions of Windows Phone, Windows and the Xbox One operating systems."

This should serve as exciting (unconfirmed) news for Microsoft and Halo fans alike, as more technology is never a bad thing, unless of course it decides to turn on us. Cortana, Siri, please don't turn on us!
