Gamescom 2020 is not canceled (yet) despite coronavirus fears

Although the coronavirus is causing many game events to shut down, gamescom 2020 is not canceled. Dozens of developers have announced that they’ll be attending this year’s show, including some from Asia.

A tweet was released by gamescom which highlights the first 29 companies to sign up. Many of the big names in gaming have made commitments to come to this year’s show in August including Nintendo and Microsoft. Developers and publishers like Bethesda Softworks, Capcom, CD Projekt Red, and others have signed on as well.

Notably, Sony is not yet among the list of exhibitors for gamescom 2020. The company had already pulled out of PAX East and announced that they won’t be going to GDC 2020; GDC 2020 was subsequently postponed due to growing fears over the coronavirus crisis.

While the coronavirus is still being fought around the world, it seems that big organizations feel the situation is improving at a steady enough pace that they can comfortably make plans for a big industry show in August. Hopefully, we won’t have to worry about anything worse than con colds by then.
