PS5 launch date still holiday 2020, says Sony

With all of the delays coming as a result of the current pandemic, many have wondered if the next generation of consoles would even come out this year at all. While anything can happen, Sony has once again reiterated that the PS5 launch date will indeed be this year.

The hardware maker revealed this in its blog post about its new DualSense controller. While most of the post detailed the actual controller, President and CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan had a little nugget of info regarding the console as whole.

“To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020,” he said. “We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.”

It was a cheeky way to still focus on the system while also addressing the elephant in the room. Sony PR reiterated this 2020 launch last month, but given how often the situation changes, more updates are necessary, especially as some analysts thing both systems will be delayed. While Sony is currently saying otherwise, it is worth keeping in mind that it is still possible that the PS5 might miss 2020 as COVID-19 continues to rage on.
