The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Messes With Series’ Formula

Instead of being forced to tackle the dungeons of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds in a specific order, Nintendo is breaking free from current tradition, harkening back to the days of the original NES classic, by allowing ultimate freedom to the player to progress however he or she chooses.

During today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo's Satoru Iwata revealed that "from a certain point in this title, the order you approach each dungeon is up to you." As such, "the player can decide how to progress through the story."

In addition, the majority of the game's key weapons/items will be available for purchase in Ravio's Shop. This removes the need to complete a particular dungeon in order to gain a specific item to access a certain part of the world and/or complete a specific task, providing more freedom to the player.
