Final Fantasy VI Headed To iOS And Android, FFVII Potentially Not Far Behind

Square Enix will continue to show its dedication to the mobile space by bringing an enhanced version of the Super Nintendo classic Final Fantasy VI (or Final Fantasy III for those of us outside of Japan) to iOS and Android devices.

Square Enix producer Takashi Tokita confirmed the news to Kotaku, explaining how the mobile port will be improved. "The battle systems have been altered for the other [mobile remakes] for Final Fantasy and VI will be the same," Tokita said. "For instance grinding was an issue and people had to spend a lot of time leveling up. Now on the mobile devices the battle systems have been adjusted so you don't have to fight as much and can enjoy the game for what it is."

In addition, Tokita spoke to the potential of other ports, including Final Fantasy VII. "We are aware that we have tons of VII fans. We have VII fans in our own company. If this Legacy project works out well, we would like to one day be able to work with VII."

JRPGs do translate well to a simple touch interface, so I'd be down to relive the classics on my iPhone. What about you? Are you interested in playing classic Final Fantasy games on your phone? Have you played some of the ones that are already available? Let us know in the comments below.
