Ubisoft: “I Doubt We Would Do A Modern Day AC… Watch Dogs Will Scratch The Itch”

Those hopping we'll one day be getting an Assassin's Creed game set entirely in the modern day are in for a bit of disappointment, as Ubisoft has no plans to build an entire AC game around the present time period. That said, the publisher believes Watch Dogs will fill this void.

The lead writer on Assassin’s Creed IV, Darby McDevitt, explained in a Reddit AMA:

I doubt we would do a modern day AC. There are just too many mechanics we would have to develop to make it [believable] … vehicles, plausible modern cities, a huge array of ranged weapons, etc.

The modern day will most likely remain as a ‘context’ for all future games, something to tie them all together.

Watch Dogs will scratch the itch for a modern day AC. Just wait!

What do you think? Will Watch Dogs serve as a viable alternative to a modern day Assassin's Creed? Could you see the two universes colliding at some point? Would it be wise for Ubisoft to indulge this possibility? Let us know in the comments below.
