A new Loki clip has introduced Agent Mobius, the character portrayed by Owen Wilson in the upcoming Disney Plus series. But who is Agent Mobius, and how does he fit into the Marvel canon?
Who is Agent Mobius in Loki?
Agent Mobius, otherwise known as Mobius M. Mobius, is a little-known character in the Marvel universe. This will be his first time appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with him appearing as a member of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), the organization that monitors the goings-on in the multiverse.
As has already been suggested by the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it seems that Marvel’s post-Endgame stories will be closely linked to the multiverse and the number of possibilities it throws up. In his debut appearance in Fantastic Four #353, Mobius attempted to track down and punish the superhero group for violating the TVA’s rules.
In this new preview clip, Loki mockingly explains how the TVA was created by the Timekeepers to “protect the sacred timeline,” with Loki derogatorily referring to them as a “trio of space lizards.” However, the reality is that the Timekeepers are pretty powerful given their influence over the TVA and the multiverse on the whole.
In Loki, Agent Mobius looks to be an elevated and more personable take on the character in the comics, with Owen Wilson’s affable charm playing counter to Loki’s mischievousness. As we know, this is a very different Loki from the one who sacrificed himself in Endgame, with this version of the character having not going through the same arc as the one we were introduced to back in Thor.
It’s unclear exactly what part Agent Mobius will play in Loki aside from guiding the titular character through the multiverse, though we won’t have to wait long to find out. Loki will premiere on Disney Plus on June 9, 2021.
In other news, Zack Snyder recently revealed the first picture from the cut Justice League Green Lantern scene. The Netflix Castlevania series’ producer also revealed why a Symphony of the Night adaptation probably won’t be happening.
