PopCap Games To Be Acquired By Unknown Company for $1 Billion

In what may become the news of the week, PopCap Games is in the works of being acquired by an undisclosed company to the tune of $1 billion. How many Peggles is that?

PopCap has an annual revenue of $100-150 million, so theorists are ruling out Zynga as the possible suspect, with rumors saying that they tried but just didn't feel comfortable with the exorbitant price tag.

Electronic Arts is a strong contender with their history of acquiring other companies, like Playfish in 2009, as well as The Great Wall of Chinese companies like Tencent.

But I would like to throw in the American company of Microsoft as my prediction. I mean, what did they show at E3 apart from Gears of War 3, some Kinect games, and a Halo remake? They have to be saving their money for something, right? It could be for the pending apocalypse, sure, but this would be close enough, too.
