Was That Iron Man and Professor X in the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Trailer?

The latest Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer has dropped, and fans are already scouring the footage for any clues as to where Sam Raimi’s Marvel movie may take them. While there’s certainly a lot to parse, two particular moments have stood out for fans, with the trailer hinting that we may see the return of Iron Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — along with the debut of Professor X.

Did Professor X and Superior Iron Man debut in the new Doctor Strange trailer?

The new trailer features two fleeting glimpses of characters who potentially have major ramifications for the future of the MCU. The first is the unmistakable voice of Patrick Stewart, who portrays Professor Xavier in Sony’s X-Men films. Unlike Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, who has been fully integrated with the MCU, the X-Men have been kept at a distance until now. While the shadowy organization Professor X is a part of is seemingly the Illuminati — Marvel’s secret society that has included the likes of Professor X, Doctor Strange, and Iron Man in the comics — it seems that this could well serve as the MCU’s introduction to the X-Men.

Speaking of Iron Man, fans have speculated that a version of the character appears in the trailer, too. A seemingly unfamiliar face is depicted in a brief action sequence in the footage, with many pointing out the blue chest and how that could be Iron Man’s Arc Reactor. Given that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man died in the regular MCU timeline, this could be an alternate universe version of the character. There is speculation that Tom Cruise is set to play a villainous variant of the character — known as Superior Iron Man in the comics — and while the Multiverse of Madness footage is a little blurry, it can certainly be argued that their appearance is moderately Cruise-like. Or, as some have suggested, this is simply Captain Marvel:
