Xbox Seemingly Confirms Players Will No Longer Be Able to Share Clips Directly to Twitter

Microsoft has effectively confirmed that it is removing the ability for Xbox users to share game clips directly to Twitter from the console. The reveal comes as those testing the latest Insider update several weeks ago noted the functionality was no longer available.

Xbox game clips must now be sent to mobile to post on Twitter

An update to the Xbox Insider Alpha Ring and Alpha – Skip Ahead Ring build has added a “mobile sharing” option to the Game DVR tab on the Xbox dashboard that includes icons for Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. This means that users will now have to upload clips and screenshots to their mobile phones before then uploading them to a variety of social media platforms. As noted by Windows Central, this all but confirms that Microsoft is not planning on reintroducing the feature in the near future.

The initial update that was released on March 7 removed the ability to share game clips to Twitter from Xbox consoles. However, it was unknown at the time whether this was the result of a deliberate test or some sort of error. Exactly what this meant for the future of Twitter Game DVR sharing was unclear at the time, with the Xbox dashboard lacking any functionality to post clips and screenshots to the social media platform. Players could still link their Xbox Live accounts to their Twitter profiles, displaying their handle to other users.

Twitter sharing has been included on Microsoft’s consoles for several years and is a feature that is regularly used by many users, including well-known Xbox employees with public profiles. So it seems like a strange move for Microsoft to make but might be some sort of effort to get more people to engage with the Xbox mobile app.

In other news, Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to watch the upcoming Halo TV series with a free Paramount Plus trial and a series of Mario Kart 8 DLC tracks have been leaked online.
