Infinity Ward has revealed that the Call of Duty DMZ mode release date is November 16 during the Call of Duty Next showcase earlier today. Not only was it confirmed to be free-to-play, but it will have the same launch date as Call of Duty Warzone 2.0. With Modern Warfare II releasing on October 28, players will only need wait several weeks before trying this new extraction mode.

What we know so far about Call of Duty DMZ mode

Call of Duty DMZ Mode

While the showcase didn’t delve too deeply into it during the presentation, DMZ mode has been self-described as an “all-new sandbox experience” that will be Infinity Ward’s spin on Escape From Tarkov. There was some concern that this additional mode would require players to pay for it, which would have a significant impact on the potential size of its user base, but going free-to-play will ensure that it has the best chance of success.

The DMZ mode will feature the new Al Mazrah map for Warzone 2.0, an extremely large desert map that has an observatory as a central focal point, two cities surrounding it, a quarry, an oasis, and an airport that overlooks the water along the southern edge. DMZ’s version of the map will have AI spread throughout multiple sections of the map with enemy soldiers constructing Strongholds to stop your progress. Players will be able to select which missions and objections they wish to complete as they attempt to infiltrate and extract loot.

The new DMZ mode was originally referenced several weeks ago in the ESRB ratings classification for Warzone 2.0. It was rumored to be intrinsically tied to Modern Warfare 2 as a game mode, but this announcement of it going free-to-play has quelled those claims.

In other news, the Street Fighter 6 closed beta is open for applications and will include a roster of eight characters, and the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection PC port come with 4K support and numerous extra graphical settings.
