PlayStation Vita Continues to Outsell PS4 in Japan

Sony's next-gen console continues to lag behind the portable market in its home country, as both PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS outpaced PS4 sales last week in Japan.

Combined sales of 3DS LL and the standard 3DS put Nintendo's handheld in first place, but when looking at each version of the hardware individually, PS Vita sits on top at number one, followed by PlayStation 4.

Check out the full list of hardware sales below, courtesy of Media Create. Note: Last week's sales are included in parentheses.

  • PlayStation Vita – 17,905 (24,078)
  • PlayStation 4 – 14,396 (13,034)
  • 3DS LL – 14,023 (17,291)
  • PlayStation 3 – 6,468 (7,305)
  • 3DS – 5,920 (6,271)
  • Wii U – 5,204 (5,512)
  • PSP – 2,094 (2,027)
  • PlayStation Vita TV – 1,133 (1,220)
  • Xbox 360 – 240 (229)

Japan's recent tax hike likely has something to do with the less-than-stellar sales numbers across the board, but it's still alarming to see PlayStation 4 struggle to gain momentum in the region, especially when considering how popular it has been in the west.
