New App Lets You Draw Your Way to Designing a Game

Pixel Press Floors is a new iOS app that harkens back to the old-school early programming of enthusiast computers while lowering the bar of game development for anyone interested in giving it a shot.

The app allows users to create platforming gameplay among other 2D mechanics with terrain, moving blocks, ladders, portals, power-ups and more. By drawing your level on graph paper and scanning it with the iPad's camera, you can then edit the level, add more items and hazards, and change the visual theme.

Players can also share their levels and set times on leaderboards. All in all, Pixel Press Floors seems like a really cool way to get kids into game development, an ever-expanding field of career opportunities with creative and technical challenges that'll probably make your brain jump through a few hoops. Still, I have to admit the creative and sharing process seems like it could appeal to adults as well.

You can download the app now after its successful Kickstarter campaign. It's on the iTunes App Store with a drawing guide available on the developer's website.
