Double Fine’s Hack ‘n’ Slash Wants You to Hack the Game, Literally

Double Fine's new title Hack 'n' Slash is now available on Steam Early Access, in part to have players help guide the puzzles, mechanics, Steam Workshop integration (wahoo!), and the bugs (or to make them!). As the game description proclaims, "the only way to win is not to play… by the rules!"

As a spritely elf, you must discover the truth behind why the town wizard has confined the villages to their homes and the armory is crafting powerful weapons. To break the house arrest, you must wield a magical sword that can break the laws, literally, as it can hack the variables of objects.

As you use artifacts to tune global weapons and equipment that can uncover "the game's internal debug visualization," like Neo seeing the code behind The Matrix, you'll master the ability to hack. You might even find a solution to a puzzle that the developers haven't found, so in a way, yes, they want you to break the game. Pretty please.

Hack 'n' Slash is available for $19.99, and the bundle with the soundtrack is $24.99.
