Fewer First-Party Games Coming to Vita From Here on Out, Says Sony

Gamers hoping for more big-budget first-party games for PlayStation Vita along the lines of Uncharted: Golden Abyss are in for a world of disappointment, as Sony plans to treat its handheld as primarily an indie and third-party gaming machine from here on out.

"It's very fortunate that the indie boom happened and they are providing lots of great content to Vita," Sony's Shuhei Yoshida told Polygon in a recent interview. "Gameplay, game mechanic wise, people want to spend 10 minutes, 15 minutes getting in and out. On Vita, it's great with suspended functionality, so these indie games really great for that from a game design standpoint.

"Instead of watching big stories or cinematics, you can spend hours on Vita. So, I think that's actually the biggest star to help provide great content to Vita going forward. And we continue to make games cross-platform games, especially on digital side."

The outlet then followed up by asking Yoshida whether or not we could take this to mean that fewer first-party games will be coming to the portable platform, to which he replied, "I would say, yes, that's correct."

Are you happy using the Vita as primarily an indie and Remote Play machine? Would you like to see Sony support the platform with more first-party titles? If so, which hypothetical releases are you holding out hope for? A new God of War? A portable InFamous? Neither will probably ever happen, but it's fun to dream.
