Sony Sees Quarterly Profit Thanks to PS4, Vita Continues to Flounder

In case you didn't get the memo, PlayStation 4 has proven to be an awfully popular console among consumers, consistently outselling the competition by quite a fair margin ever since it released late last year.

This has lead to a lucrative quarter for Sony, yielding a net profit of 26.8 billion yen, which is approximately $265 million. On top of that, sales saw a 5.8 percent spike to $17.92 billion, as Sony's latest home console lead the gaming division to an impressive 95.7 percent year-on-year revenue boost.

Sadly, the same can't be said for the company's handheld division, as a mere 0.75 million shipments of PSP, Vita, and Vita TV were made over the quarter. It'll be interesting to see how well PlayStation TV fares when it expands to the west in just a few months' time.

Nintendo released its quarterly numbers yesterday, which weren't nearly as encouraging as Sony's. Still, the Big N will likely be just fine, and it looks like the PlayStation manufacturer will too.
