Sony has had a lot of success with PlayStation though the firm's TV and media player lines haven't had the same growth in name-recognition or status, so it's no surprise that the company has formed a new division under the banner of "New Business Creation."
According to a report by Nikkei, the company hopes to create the next major name in its portfolio following the success of first the Walkman and followed by the PlayStation. According to the report, Sony had 800 employees interested in the division and that those working there have already generated 200 ideas for products and new projects.
In particular, the New Business Creation division has an alternative management structure with less overhead and a more open atmosphere. Sony's head of New Business Creation, Shinji Odajima specifically wanted younger employees in the hopes that the energy will create something new.
The overall outlook in the division seems hopeful that success is right around the corner. "SCE isn't a business there to sell [a] console. It sells games and content; that's the essence of it. Delivering gaming from the cloud could be a very important part of this."
With the number of gadgets in our lives, I don't know what I would add to the arsenal I currently haul around with me. Still, it's probably exciting for people both in and outside of the company to think of what the future holds in technology.
