Metal Gear Series Lifetime Sales

Metal Gear Series Lifetime Sales Surpass That of the Original Super Mario Bros

While the Metal Gear series has been dormant since Metal Gear Survive launched in 2018, it’s now reached a rather surprising milestone in terms of sales, especially for a game series that hasn’t had a release in years.

The entire Metal Gear Series has sold more than Super Mario Bros

According to figures released by Konami themselves, the Metal Gear series has apparently sold a total of 59.5 million copies. This includes the entirety of the Metal Gear series, including all spin-offs such as Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.

If accurate, this would mean that the Metal Gear series has sold more than the original Super Mario Bros has sold, which also means that it has surpassed the sales of the following games:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • The Witcher 3
  • Pokemon Red

Of course, this is including the sales of every single game in the series. Both Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty have sold over seven million copies each which is just over the lifetime sales of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island.

In other Metal Gear news, it appears that PlatinumGames may be teasing Metal Gear Rising Revengeance 2.
