Just last week, Halo: Nightfall actor Mike Colter caused quite a stir among fans of Microsoft's prized video game franchise by suggesting his character, Agent Locke, would be the leading man in Halo 5: Guardians. 343 Industries franchise development director Frank O'Connor has since cleared up the confusion, confirming that Master Chief will in fact be the game's main character, not Agent Locke.
"'A' primary character, Chief is the main character and hero,” O'Connor explained in a post on NeoGAF. O'Connor also addressed a comment suggesting that the studio is just "gonna test the waters to see if they can retire Master Chief," providing a blunt "NO" and "the end" as a response.
Halo 5: Guardians isn't set to launch until holiday 2015, so there's still plenty of time for 343 Industries to tease fans of the franchise at what's to come. Fortunately, Halo lovers will have The Master Chief Collection, which launches in less than a month's time, to tide them over.
