Redfall Will Be a ‘Good Game’ Eventually, Says Bethesda Exec

Among all this talk of Starfield, Bethesda’s head of global publishing has said that the universally panned vampire FPS Redfall will continue to be worked on by the team.

Not the start the studio wanted

In a recent interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Pete Hines, who’s been with Bethesda for nearly two and half decades, says the company is not giving up on Redfall. He says that they’re aiming to “get it to be a good game,” adding that “Game Pass lives forever.”

Hines likens the launch of the Arkane Austin-developed title to The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76. Both of these were heavily criticized upon release but are generally regarded as being in much better states these days.

Likewise, Redfall will continue to be worked on, Hines says, prophesizing that there will be “people ten years from now who are going to join Game Pass, and Redfall will be there.”

With reports saying that development was understaffed and lacked direction (not to mention a series of bugs), the vampire co-op shooter was very poorly received. Currently, the game has a score of “mostly negative” on Steam.

As such, both Arkane and Bethesda have a vested interest in trying to undo the damage that has been done. With noted bugs and the game lacking substantial content, Redfall has so far been one of the most disappointing releases of 2023.

Hines admits that the team “didn’t get the start” they were hoping for, but it sounds like the studio is going to put in some effort to make it respectable. Who knows. In the future, people may even call Redfall a good game.
