CES 2024 Features a Bizarre Unofficial Super Mario Hologram

CES 2024 finishes today, but before it ends after a week of expeditions, you need to check out this clip of an unusual Super Mario hologram. It’s definitely one that will stick with attendees at this year’s event for some time.

An unfinished proof

As noted by Twitter user @ProbChild_, CES featured an unofficial hologram of Super Mario that was seemingly intended as an AI form of help. However, when the user interacts with it, what comes out of the iconic plumber’s mouth is quite bizarre.

For one thing, it doesn’t sound like the official mascot. It looks like him, but it doesn’t have that Charles Martinet voice that many have come to recognize over the decades. This causes @ProbChild_ to stare directly at the camera, confused about what they’re witnessing.

Another video from the same user has them asking the Mario hologram for advice about buying a game. The response is just as bewildering, with the post on Twitter saying that “nothing about this makes sense.” It truly is something to behold.

It should be said that this is not an official Nintendo exhibition. Instead, it’s an AI hologram animation from a company called Proto Inc.

It’s described as an unfinished proof of concept that was being “tested for a client to demonstrate technological capabilities and innovation.” It was not intended for public viewing, it seems.

Still, as weird as it is, it’s quite amusing to hear Super Mario in this much deeper voice that’s affecting some unusual take on an Italian accent. No doubt, many will now look upon Chris Pratt’s interpretation more favorably.
