Analysts Says Video Games Performed Better Than Other Segments Over Black Friday

Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia says that GameStop proved video games a financial highlight over Thanksgiving and Black Friday weekend, saying that the firm believes "video games remained a bright spot, based on our checks."

Note that GameStop ran a special event that it called GameStop Family Weekend over the 11/21 – 11/23 period to coincide with the launch of Nintendo's highly anticipated (and based on reports from Nintendo, highly successful) titles Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire for 3DS.

In all honesty, it felt weird to see news reports on sales all weekend, but it did leave me a little eager to see what kind of price drops would pop up over Cyber Monday. Bhatia continued to say that Microsoft's Xbox One "appears" to have outsold PlayStation 4, likely thanks to its most recent price drop to $349.99 which the company says has tripled the sell through rate.
