Internet Ridicules $230 iPhone Pocket After Launch

Apple’s iPhone Pocket’s release came bearing controversy owing to its steep price tag. The newly announced iPhone carrying case is facing major backlash after revealing that it will retail for $229.95. Consequently, angered fans took to social media to express their disappointment, with many even calling the Apple product a “cut-up sock.”

iPhone Pocket’s price and look has fans talking

Looks like iPhone users are finally done with the tech company quoting irrational prices for the most basic upgrades. The price of Apple’s new iPhone Pocket has triggered a social media storm, with angry users calling out the company for its unreasonable pricing on a substandard accessory.

Apple claims that its iPhone pocket is a luxurious accessory, designed in collaboration with Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake. The fashion-forward accessory is a testament to Apple’s iconic partnership with the late designer, who designed Steve Jobs’ signature black turtlenecks. It can hold the iPhone and other small items.

The iPhone Pocket can also be worn as a crossbody, and can even be attached to a bag or handheld. Available in eight colors, it has impressed a section of users who see it as a stylish fusion of tech and fashion.

Others, however, aren’t in agreement and are calling the iPhone Pocket yet another overpriced gimmick. Meanwhile, many are questioning its practicality and durability, considering the high price.

The announcement garnered severe criticism on social media. Some netizens mocked Apple fans, saying they would “pay for anything,” including the iPhone Pocket, which looks like “a cut-up sock.”

Moreover, the bag’s structure has raised concerns about theft. One Threads user wrote, “No zip, no structure, and considering how many thefts of iPhones there are these days… no security? This is nothing more than a sock, rebranded as a cash grab.”

The criticism only got worse as some even compared the product to the fictional character Borat’s bright-green mankini. “TWO hundred and thirty dollars. This feels like a litmus test for people who will buy/defend anything Apple releases,” wrote an X (formerly Twitter) user.

Furthermore, social media consultant and analyst Matt Navara shared his opinion on the iPhone Pocket. He told BBC, “This kind of pricing is not new in the world of luxury fashion or designer collabs.” “But for most consumers, it feels like Apple is testing the limits of brand loyalty”, Navara added.

Regardless of the radicalized opinions, the iPhone Pocket continues to generate hype and curiosity among Apple users.
