Gospel singer Solomon Ray is an AI-generated singer and the internet’s latest topic of discussion. Ray’s songs entered iTunes’ Top 100 Christian and Gospel albums chart last week. He shared this news on Instagram, including a graphic detailing his achievements and a lengthy caption celebrating it. However, this has enraged fans online.
Gospel singer who topped iTunes chart is not a human
AI-generated Gospel singer Solomon Ray’s songs have recently surpassed many music charts and records. According to his caption, he is currently holding the number one song and album on iTunes Christian charts simultaneously. It appears to be the first for any AI singer of any genre.
Gospel singer Solomon Ray boasts 48K followers, 360K monthly listeners, 2.6M combined streams, and 63+ radio spins. According to the graphic, he is ranked first for Gospel Digital Song Sales. Billboard ranks Ray sixth on Hot Gospel Songs and 16th on the Digital Song Sales and Emerging Artists list.
The caption on Instagram reads, “Solomon Ray is no longer ‘the AI experiment’. He is now the biggest new voice in gospel music – period. The future arrived faster than anyone expected. And his name is Solomon Ray. (All in under 21 days).” It was accompanied by the hashtags ‘christian’, ‘Solomon Ray’, and ‘AI Gospel’.
Unsurprisingly, fans are enraged on social media and have slammed the Gospel singer in the comments section. One fan commented, “Screwing over human artists so humans can pay to hear a robot’s feelings about God. No thanks.” Another fan questioned, “Sooo who shows up to perform at concerts? A holographic image of this made-up person?”
A third fan backed the previous two and penned, “AI gospel doesn’t sit right with me.” Finally, a fan chimed in, “I’d rather listen to a real human with real work and emotion put into their art, called music. This is not authentic.”
Most fans think it is unfair for an AI-generated Gospel singer to compete with actual human artists on the same music charts and in the same streaming race. Ray has released Christmas albums A Soulful Christmas and Faithful Soul, which have generated millions of streams. (via Page Six).
