Elon Musk Challenges Pro League of Legends Team To Battle Grok AI

Elon Musk’s confidence in Grok AI has continued to generate headlines. In another instance of boasting the AI chatbot’s capabilities, Musk has challenged pro-gaming team T1 to a League of Legends showdown against his AI chatbot, Grok 5. The challenge has caught the attention of gaming fans, with some expressing excitement and others skepticism.

Elon Musk wants LoL World 2025 champions to face his Grok AI in a game

Elon Musk has challenged the reigning League of Legends World Champions, T1, to a faceoff against his AI, Grok 5, in 2026. In a challenge posted on X (formerly Twitter), Musk claimed that Grok 5 is designed to play any game simply by reading instructions. “Let’s see if Grok 5 can beat the best human team League Of Legends in 2026 with these important constraints,” the post read, followed by two terms and conditions. Musk outlined the first as “Can only look at the monitor with a camera, seeing no more than what a person with 20/20 vision would see.” The second was outlined as “Reaction latency and click rate no faster than human.”

T1 leader Faker has since accepted the challenge. Faker responded with a GIF and a message saying, “We are ready. Are you?”

The potential match between T1 and Grok 5 has generated significant interest from esports players. Even Riot Games is on board with co-founder and president Marc Merrill responding to Elon Musk’s challenge, writing, “let’s discuss.”

Meanwhile, ex-LoL pro Eugene ‘Pobelter’ Park also expressed his interest in being part of the showdown. “Would love to help and offer insight as a former League pro, I thought AI vs Dota 2 was really interesting and always wanted to see it vs League”, he wrote.

Researcher Oriol Vinyals, a StarCraft Grandmaster, sparked Musk’s interest with another exciting suggestion. He suggested that Grok 5 take on Blizzard’s iconic RTS game, StarCraft. Vinyals elevated the difficulty level by throwing in a bonus challenge: getting the AI to operate the mouse and keyboard.

However, not everyone shares Elon Musk’s faith in Grok AI’s capabilities. Ex-LoL pro Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng was not convinced about the AI’s chances, writing, “no shot this would happen.” Joedat “Voyboy” Esfahani concurred, writing, “This is definitely not possible by 2026.”
